Ye Fathers What Flee to Their Cabins, 2025
Unreal Engine, PC, keyboard and mouse
This simulation is a meditation on control panels, of the interface of tools, such that convey mastery over a cybernetic extension of hands and material. But here, control falters. The structure strains. The interface implicates the user.
This is a staged breakdown. Inspired by Robert Smithson’s “Partially Buried Woodshed” and his conception of systems of entropy and deterioration, along with Whit Pow’s formulation of the glitch as “unmediation,” this sim invites players to press into tension, not resolve it. Familiar tools yield unfamiliar consequences. The viewer becomes a participant in acts of unsettling and undoing. It is a system built to defamiliarize; to expose the systems beneath: spatial, sculptural, digital, a space where bodies meet machines, and neither emerge unchanged.
